Meet The Surrey Team

Our History

Clinic Director and Owner Heather Branscombe is a physiotherapist with over 15 years experience in both the public and private sector. As a mom of three (with one child with cerebral palsy), Heather has a unique perspective and passion that drove her to open the first clinic in October of 2007. She could see the need for increased access to high quality and evidenced based rehabilitation services delivered within the context of a team.

Heather’s professional passion continues to be the integration of rehabilitation technology into practice. She has consulted as a clinical specialist to a rehabilitation technology company and has taught therapists, orthotists and physicians across Canada. Not afraid to be an innovator and pioneer, she has brought many emerging technologies and therapy practices to Canada through Abilities.

Heather and Abilities are now seen within the industry as a community partner in emerging therapies.

Often asked to collaborate on research initiatives, she is involved in research projects with the University of British Columbia (FEATHER’s project) and has been asked to be the exclusive BC provider of emerging therapy practice such as the telemedicine driven ReJoyce through rehabtronics.

Professionally, Heather volunteers her time as a member of the Board of Directors for the Stroke Recovery Association of B.C. and is the past-chair of the Neurosciences Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, running and the beautiful outdoors.

I took the ferry across from Victoria to see Sherri a Speech Pathologist at Abilities Rehabilitation. I have been experiencing excess muscle tension in my neck when speaking which was causing me a lot of pain. After only spending a few minutes with me Sherri was able to offer me great insight into my issue that I have been struggling with for nearly 4 years now. She was very professional and thorough and I would highly recommend her to anyone. I am taking the ferry back to Vancouver this Friday to see Sherri again, and I believe she is truly going to help me turn this problem around. I also had dealing with the front desk staff who were extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the services Abilities Neurological Rehabilitation has to offer.

I am a singer and was having major throat issues that prevented me from being able to sing. Shirley showed me exactly what was wrong with my throat and more importantly showed me how to fix it! I am back to singing again and it is so great to have my voice back!

Have been coming here for services for our child for 5 years. While there has been some turnover of therapists through the years (seems common in this industry) we have appreciated the knowledge & professionalism of the staff. Child and family centered, know how to handle all the paperwork involved to make life simpler for caregivers. When there wasn't a therapist on staff to meet the needs of our child, they went above & beyond to suggest appropriate service for us elsewhere.
